Easybreath mask: everything you should know

EASYBREATH MASK: EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW

IF YOU’VE HEARD OF SUBEA’S EASYBREATH, IT’S PROBABLY BECAUSE THIS FULL-FACE SNORKELING MASK HAS GAINED WORLDWIDE POPULARITY OVER THE YEARS. FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE EASYBREATH MASK, OR POSSIBLY EVEN OWN ONE, HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL TIPS TO USE THIS FANTASTIC INNOVATION TO ITS FULLEST!

1. Are there any preventive measures i should take with my easybreath mask?

Mind the sand:

- The same rule applies with your sunglasses. Sand may scratch the mask glass, so do avoid contact with it~~- Sand can also get caught in the snorkel floater and block it. If this happens, unclip the snorkel and rinse it until all the sand is cleared~~- To extend the lifespan of your Easybreath mask, rinse it properly with fresh water after each use,  and store it in its mesh bag

2. How many sizes are available?

The Easybreath mask comes in 3 sizes:

For adults: S/M and M/L

For kids: XS

3. What size is suitable for me?

The best way to choose the right size for you're trying it in-store is to try the mask on like this:

- Put the mask on, tighten the strap to secure the mask but don’t over tighten it.

- There should be no gaps between the lower part of your chin and the mask skirt~

If you buy online, here are some recommendations to consider:

- Size XS: for kids between 6 to 10 years old

- Size S/M: for kids from 10 years old onwards and adults with a thin and average-sized faces

- Size M/L: for adults with wider faces

To be even more accurate, you can measure the distance between the top of your nose and the bottom of your chin (mouth closed) and refer to the chart on the right!

4. Why does my easybreath mask have leakages?

These leakages can occur because of several reasons.

- The most common reason is due to wrong sizing. Please do ensure to choose the correct size before purchase!

- Having a beard can also hinder a good seal between the face and the mask, as the silicone skirt is meant to be in contact with your skin to prevent water from getting in.

- Similarly, if you have long hair, make sure that it’s tied and not trapped between the silicone skirt and your forehead.

5. The floater in my snorkel is stuck, how do i fix it?

Sand can block the floater if it enters the snorkel. If this happens, rinse the snorkel thoroughly with fresh water. You can also use a key, for example, to pass it through the snorkel rear vents to unblock the floater. Simply blow out when you surface to push the floater down faster and breathe normally again.

6. Why can’t i breathe sometimes?

Occasionally, If you feel that your breath is blocked, that’s because you’ve tilted your head too far forward and the snorkel is now underwater. As a result, the dry top system had closed the snorkel to prevent any water from getting into the mask. It could also happen in case of waves passing over the snorkel.

~In both situations, breathing will resume as soon as you surface again. Don’t forget to blow out to clear the floater faster.

7. Why can't i clip the snorkel?

The reason for this is very often repetitive, the main culprit being sand! Simply ensure that there is no sand inside the snorkel and around the o-ring.

PRO-TIP: As the connection between the mask and snorkel is watertight, it’s okay to use a little more force to clip the snorkel on.

 8. Why can i hear a hum when i breathe?

Humming occurs as the Easybreath mask has many one-way valves to let air circulate in a specific direction to avoid fogging. The opening and closing of these valves can generate a sound similar to a scuba diving regulator, which is totally normal. Breathe slowly and deeply to limit this from occurring.

9. Why does water still go in when i freedive with easybreath?

The mask’s dry top system is designed to prevent the water from entering the mask in case of small waves or if you submerge the mask accidentally. As such, the dry top system works best when the snorkel is vertical and not during a duck (horizontal) dive.

10. Can i freedive with the easybreath mask?

As mentioned above, the Easybrath mask is not designed for freediving but for snorkelling on the surface. You cannot freedive with the Easybreath as:

- The dry top system doesn’t work during a duck (horizontal) dive

- The Easybreath is big volume mask, and therefore it won’t be comfortable if you dive below 1m due to pressure

- The mask prevents you from carrying out one of the most important requirements during freediving – equalising pressure in your ears (which you will not be able to reach)

11. Why does my mask fog up?

The exclusive air circulation to prevent fogging of the Easybreath works better in waters above 18 °C.~~Saltwater and sun can dirty your mask and make it prone to fogging. Rinse your mask properly with fresh water after easy use.

12. Why is there a valve behind the white hood on the lower part (chin) of the mask?

This valve enables you to expel water without removing the mask.

If there is a bit of water in your mask, raise your head and water will automatically drain out through this valve.

13. Why is the easybreath mask so heavy?

The only way to provide 180º vision and natural breathing is conceptualising a full-face mask!

Though heavyweight, the Easybreath mask was also designed to meet several safety standards like the snorkel and respiratory effort – which meant compromising on volume!

14. Why is the snorkel so short?

Although a traditional snorkel seems longer than an Easybreath one, this is actually not the case! On the contrary, the Easybreath snorkel is longer than a traditional one, as a traditional snorkel starts from the mouth while the Easybreath one starts from the forehead.

15. Can i use the easybreath mask for swim training?

If swimming is to running, then snorkelling is to walking. It requires much more energy and effort for breathing for the latter.

As the Easybreath mask was not designed to provide so much for air during a great effort, it is likely that you will feel uncomfortable during a swim with it.

16. At what age can i start using an easybreath mask?

It’s perfectly safe for kids 6 years old and above to use the Easybreath mask!

Once again, do note that it is highly important to pick the correct size before purchase for maximum comfort.

17. How long does the air reserve of the easybreath mask last?

As a piece of snorkeling equipment, the Easybreath mask has no air reserve. Air flow goes through the snorkel – the volume of air contained in the mask doesn’t allow inhalation.

WE HOPE THIS HELPED! NOW IT’S TIME TO ENJOY YOUR SNORKELING SESSION WITH YOUR EASYBREATH MASK!
