How to: Count Points On A             Dart Board

Whether you have a traditional target (for steel points) or a plastic or electronic target (for plastic points) the point counting system is the same.

Traditional Target And Electronic Target

A dart target is divided into 20 areas of the same size and 2 centres. Each zone is numbered (values from 1 to 20) and divided into sub-zones.

Each player will throw 3 darts, and the goal is to get as many points as possible.

Easy Zone

1/ Singular Zone

When a dart reaches this area:

The value of the points are equal to: X1.
So if your dart hits 5: you score 5 points.

This zone is the easiest to achieve as it has the biggest area.

Double Zone

2/ Double Zone

When a dart reaches this area:

The value of the number is equal to: X2
So if your dart arrives in this area of number 5: you score 10 points.

Triple Zone

3/ Triple Zone

When a dart reaches this area:

The value of the number is equal to: X3
So if your dart arrives in this area of number 5: you score 15 points.

Bull's Eye

4/ Bull's Eye

The center of the target is divided into 2 areas:

The first circle (green) is equal to 25 points and the second circle (red) is equal to 50 points.

Maximum Points

Maximum Points

Now that you know how to count your points, you have guessed that the bull's eye(50 points) is not the area that scores the most points.

The area that has the maximum points is the triple 20 (60 points) This is why it is this area that players target during the championships. In a throw of 3 darts, they can score 180 points.

As you can see, darts can be played in many different ways. These are some of the standard ways you can play darts, but if you're playing casually, these rules do not have to be set in stone – feel free to invent your own. But most importantly, have fun!
